Plant A Tree!!!!!!!

October 29th 2006 02:07
Part of the need to conserve and to reinvigorate a planet that we are killing, is to figure out what we (yes you and I) can do to breathe some life back into it all. What we can do is not very limited. There are any number of measures available to us.

One of the best examples is simply planting a tree....We've got upwards of 100 trees on the property and I planted 8 new ones this year. I don't expect that most will rival me in my concern and effort, but if you simply plant ONE tree I, and the environment, will thank-you over and over again.

Sadly, our Cypress (planted in June) lived wonderfully all summer and grew about two feet. Last night, and yes I know this because I check the newer trees daily, got into a fight with a deer from hell. This particular deer debarked much of the tree while also stripping away nearly all its' branches....I'm no hunter, but I'm thinking about taking up the sport....from my living room!

Today I caged the tree. Hopefully it's not too late. This video is not for the faint of heart!

Ahh after seeing THIS perhaps I'll let the little guys have their way afterall!

Gee, I wish I had a property big enough to plant 100 trees on. Even just a few more would be nice.

So do you think maybe the deer was upset about a human putting a cage around his favourite tree?

Well....I'd have to say no to that one given that the cage wasn't up until after he/she devoured much of it. There's a new addtion coming in with a road and all that we're trying to build a tree barrier with....and when bambi decides on a vittle it kinda screws with the planning!
Thanks for dropping by Melissa....It's appreciated!

I'm just glad to know someone else is having trouble with the wildlife at the moment.

We started off a vegie garden in an old bathtub recently.

First we had to deal with the dog constantly getting through the barriers and digging it up.

After we sorted that one out we had to contend with the local birds eating the produce.

We've put something in place now that hopefully will help, but to date we have lost:

Every strawberry (birds)
Chives (birds)
4 lettuce (birds)
20 carrots (dog)
2 cucumber plants (dog)
1 rhubarb (dog)
2 tomato plants (dog)

I'm wondering what nature will throw at us next!

Just remembered this post - I did say I wondered what nature would throw at me next - did I tell you that only a day later a possum got into the action!!!
