Apologies

September 29th 2006 15:30

I guess we'll get back to business today....

There are still several fairly basic tips that we haven't covered yet. Today I'd like to talk about the psychology of driving. Well in fact, just plain psychology. Do we ever really think about driving? Do we plan our daily driving? Most of us don't. Some who live in massive urban sprawl have to make the decision to get into the damn car and take on a million other motorists, but for most of us, I'd argue we simply don't think about it.

Here's a typical day for me (prior to my own enlightenment)

Wake up and head to the fridge to make some breakfast...think an Omelette sounds good...Dammit. No milk...actually there's about a teaspoon left in the gallon container I left last night for I don't know...a damn mouse perhaps...

Don't bother showering, throw on a cap, some shorts and a sweatshirt and head to the rig...Start it and start to back up...wait a minute....I can't see. Shit. Go back into the house grab the glasses that are a few prescriptions old (contact wearer) and head back to the rig still running. Get half way into town and wonder how much cash is in the wallet...Shit...No wallet....Turnaround and go back to the house....Get wallet and actually check for participating greenbacks....K...There's about 4 of em in there...That should do...

Get back in the rig and head to the first possible store that sells milk....what do ya know...It's a drive through....Only 3 cars in front... I'll wait (engine running), 15 minutes later I make it to the window and almost DEMAND a gallon of milk. Since the milk's in the back of the store, the poor 19 year old girl has to get on the intercom and request assistance....10 minutes later she hands the milk through the window. The transaction complete...tommy turns and heads for home...

Once home I fix up a lovely little taco omelette and proceed to eat it in just under world record time. Feeling fat, it becomes necessary to work off some calories. I decide to mow the lawn (for the second time this week) and head to the garage. Pick up the gas container to fill the lawn mower and Voila....it's got just over a teaspoon left in it....What the Hell is that Gonna Fill? I think to myself....Shit...

To the Rig....

To the nearest gas station we go to fill my 5 gallon container.

Back home...

After mowing the lawn I'm a bit parched and think a beer
sounds good. Check fridge. Well yes...there is ONE beer in the fridge. I wonder...If one is good what are the chances I might want to meet it's friend(s) who hang out in little groupings of 6, 12, 18, 24 and sometimes even 30? Pretty good I say to myself....To the Rig...

After finding the nearest beer store I realize 2 dollars won't buy too many friends....shit...turnaround and drive all the way across town to the local bank for a fast forty. Ok...Got the cash...now slow down (now I'm getting smart). I take a shortcut to a beer store much closer to home (ah ha...I'm saving fuel). Get my one beer's long lost 12 friends and head back home.

Ahhhhh...........slurp......ahhhhhhhhhh

Dammit...It's the wife...

Yeah hon I remembered to pick up the pictures and Diet Pepsi at Walmart. Got em right here.....NOT....Shit

To the Rig....

Ok...Do ya see my point today? Slow down, plan and think about driving. Think about it as you would as you plan your day. Sure emergencies happen...well shit happens....but do the best to get all your stuff done on one trip then do one better and ask yourself if you can do that trip tomorrow. If we all took a bit of time to plan around driving less, we'd save a ton in Money and fuel....

As always.............Godspeed & Good Luck!
