Gas Saving Tip #8.

Another somewhat confusing issue surrounding the lubricant industry is the notion of the weight of the oil.
Program note here...You will notice links that I add into the blog that are highlighted. These links will all open in a new window, so you don't lose your place here and sometimes are better than the blog post itself I admit. Sometimes they're on topic and sometimes they just tickle my fancy. I look hard for quality links that are entertaining and informing. So don't be scared to click on them...I had one email where a guy in Michigan tells me that he reads my blog post in full, then turns around and clicks on all the links after reading the post...To each his or her own I suppose....Now back to our subject...
Where was I? Oh yeah the weight of the oil. Today we're gonna stick to the part that seems to confuse most people when discussing regular motor oils and what to put in their automobile. As I said, they're is some confusion and flat out wivestales there. Although there are some relatively slight differences, the bottomline, especially when talking about synthetics is it's really fairly unremarkable. You'll hear grampa say he never puts nothing but 10W40 in his 1937 jalopy, but for the most part there isn't a ton of difference. Here's the technical skinny. Same goes for a 40 weight oil although it's a bit thicker and does better in hotter running conditions as a result. When I ran my business I generally went with what the customer wanted irregardless as to what the manufacturer suggested as the differences in most applications are very marginal. Until we chat again.........Godspeed & Good luck.........T
