I stumbled across a site this morning called the "frugal family" and it had a nice little list of resources that address the topic here.
Surf Your Way to Gas Savings
Looking for more ways to save money on gas? Consider these sources around the web:
www.fueleconomy.gov- This government website features gas mileage tips, information about the future outlook for gas prices, vehicle fuel economy ratings, as well as links to local gas pricing websites.
Daily Fuel Gauge Report- Consult this site run by the AAA for daily updates on the current national gas average, including side-by-side comparisons with the gas prices for yesterday and one year ago today.
Fuel Cost Calculator- Want to know how much your vacation is going to cost you? This AAA website has the answer. Plug in your start and stop location and your vehicle's make, model and year; and the calculator will tell you how much the gas is going to cost you-down to the last painful penny.
GasBuddy.com- How much does gas currently cost in your area? Locate your state on the map, and click to find out. Consumers log in to this website to report the highest and lowest prices they've found around town. Also includes a link for driving directions to the various gas stations listed.
GasPriceWatch.com- This is another website where consumers report the gas prices they've spotted around town. Self-proclaimed as "the world's largest consumer advocacy site for gas prices," this site is a good follow up to gasbuddy.com.
National Renewable Energy Laboratory- Tempted by the new tax incentives for purchasing a hybrid electric vehicle? Find out more at this website, which includes links to the appropriate IRS publication and information about individual state tax incentives.
CarPoolConnect.com- Search the database at this website to find other commuters in your area who are interested in setting up a carpool or to find information on how you can join an existing carpool.
eRideShare.com- This website is designed to connect commuters and/or travelers who are looking to share a ride. Planning a trip soon? This could be your way to cut costs.
Car Sharing. Network- Do you live in an area that requires little driving, but still enjoy the convenience of having a car for occasional trips? Then, save yourself the expense of maintaining a vehicle, and join a car sharing network. This program will give you access to a vehicle whenever you need one, and you only pay for the trips you make.
Accu Traffic- Sitting in traffic wastes both gas and time. Check your local road conditions at "AccuTraffic," and you'll know when you need to take an alternate route or postpone your departure.
