Fuel Saving Advice - November 2006

In A Flippin' Nutshell

November 27th 2006 05:01
This is what the problem is...Well one of em...

New Delhi, November 26: Drawing the world’s attention on the need to put an end to how the current world crude oil prices were being determined on a purely “speculative” basis, finance minister P. Chidambaram today pointed out that the country’s growth story could have been far better but was being “robbed” of attaining higher GDP growth figures on account of the high crude oil prices.

Enforce transparency!Infra improvement critical to 10% growth target: 11th Plan paper PM urges faster free trade pact with AseanFTA with China not a viable option: India IncDon’t spook them

Speaking at the India Economic Summit held here today, the finance minister said that the manner in which the crude prices were currently moving shows that these are not based on demand and supply factors but were driven by speculative forces.

He specifically drew attention to how the crude oil prices recently dipped from a high of $78 per barrel to $55 per barrel when there was no real or significant change in the demand and supply of oil. This, he said, was an indication that crude prices were being determined on the basis of speculation and not on the basis of demand and supply factors.

The FM said: “I continue to say that it is speculation driven and the world must come to some kind of understanding between oil producing countries and oil consuming countries to how these shocks can be reduced. We are at risk here.” For a country that is clocking an over 8 per cent growth, Chidambaram said “India is being robbed of 1 per cent (GDP) growth” on account of the high crude oil prices. He drew the attention of how the country’s future generations would have to pay for this speculative behaviour as currently the government has to take recourse to oil bonds to cushion the impact of the high crude prices.

As India’s growth has implications for the growth of other countries as well, he said that there was therefore an urgent need for some intervention from both the producer countries and consumer countries to ensure that crude oil prices move within a band of prices —- a band where both the producer countries and consuming countries are not hurt either on account of low prices or on account too high prices.

High global crude prices was one of the six issues that were identified for “India in a world of risk”. While Chidambaram said that he viewed the potential risks as opportunities for the country, on the issue climate change, he said that it would be unfair for the developed countries to ask rapidly growing developing countries such as India and China to reduce their energy consumption.

He added, “China and India are not running away from the responsibility (towards addressing the issue of climate change) “ and said that the fair option would be that the developed countries give the required technologies to the developing countries to deal with this issue.

Cliff's Notes

November 24th 2006 18:50
Every once in a while I think it's necessary to post or repost some semblance of a few of the most common tips to save fuel. Sure we've been over them, but for newbies or for those who may have forgotten, it's hard to expect folks to go looking back through the archives, so I repost or bring in a new post from a different source every so often. This way the standard tips that work are readily available. So today will serve as just such a post.

t appears that gas prices are going to be on the high side again this year, so it is important to conserve gas in whatever way possible. There are many steps that you can take in order to make your tank of gas last longer. Just a few of them are as follows:

1. Avoid letting you car warm up for too long; 60 seconds is long enough. Letting your car idle is one sure fire way to waste gas.
2. Do not start and stop your engine unless you absolutely have to. Starting you car back up takes the same amount of gas as letting the engine idle for 60 seconds
3. Do not rev the engine. There is no need to lay on the accelerator when your car is in neutral or park.
4. Avoid jack rabbit starts. When starting from a dead stop be sure to accelerate in a slow and smooth manner.
5. Choose the grade of gas you use very carefully. There is no benefit of using premium gas if your car only requires the use of regular.
6. Keep in mind that driving over 40 miles per hour puts your car up against an extreme amount of wind resistance.
7. Going along with number six, keep your windows up when driving at highway speeds. Driving with your windows down will cause air drag which can reduce gas mileage by up to 10%.
8. Drive at a steady pace. Both slowing down and speeding up use fuel.
9. Remember that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. Taking the scenic route may be more fun, but you will also use more gas.
10. Be sure to get your car tuned up regularly. Consult with your owner’s manual in order to find out when your car is due for its next tune up.
11. Remove snow tires during the summer months. Deep tread tires can harm your gas mileage.
12. Air conditioners can decrease fuel economy by up to 20%. Unless it is absolutely necessary, try to avoid running your air conditioner for an extended period of time.
13. Make sure that your tires are set to the appropriate pressure level.
14. And lastly, remember that car pools really do save gas and money! Hook up with some friends or co-workers and save your wallet as well as the environment.

Winter Heating Tips

November 23rd 2006 16:35
Heating your home or apartment is not just something you want to do during the winter months, it’s something you need to do to survive. With energy prices expected to be up to 50% higher this winter many folks are actualy scared, because they find it hard to pay the heating bills every winter, and this year may be the worse in history.

I live in a small apartment in the Northeast U.S. in the state of Pennsylvania. In the winter it gets very cold here. It’s normal for us to have very cold temperatures from November - March, and during the months of January and February, we often have weeks where the daytime temperature never gets above 15 degrees

Blood & Oil

November 20th 2006 17:44
There is a documentary that will be screened in Washington, D.C. November 28th that ought to be mandatory viewing for every Washington legislator, Defense Department worker and member of the Bush White House.

While Blood and Oil...The Middle East in World War I, is no Saturday afternoon popcorn film, if there be one history lesson that should be sponged up by both political science major and those who decide on war today, this is it.

Gas Prices On The Rise Again?

November 16th 2006 23:30
The following is an article by David Goldstein who is a contributing writer to the Huffington Post.

The federal government's failed response to Hurricane Katrina, a nearly endless parade of congressional corruption scandals and the deteriorating war in Iraq all played huge roles in creating the anti-Republican tide that swept Democrats into power last week. But to the average voter, nothing brought home the incompetence and arrogance of the Republican regime like rising prices at the pump.

Coming together nicely

November 11th 2006 20:39
I've been kinda busy over at Squidoo as there are so many tools and fun things to do. Did I mention this is a free site? The options are mind boggling. Every day I discover more and in just a few days have went from a 50,000 rank to around 1000th. I highly recommend Squidoo.com. Check out my site and consider creating your own "lens."

I'll get back to the fuelsaving advice just as soon as I can pull myself away from Squidoo...LOL

Dealership vs Preferred Customer

November 10th 2006 17:17
I receive a few emails a week asking about startup costs for an Amsoil home business. That is one of the attractive features of it. How many "opportunities" do you see out there where people want you to pay a bunch of money every month to "trust them" that you're gonna make it back and then some? You can HONESTLY start an Amsoil home business for 15.00. That's it! Of course you can spend more for the business manual (good and recommended), but if you don't have that kind of cash, you don't have to have it. Lastly, if you join the business under me, I become your support for any and all business questions you may have. Here's a little tip that will probably knock your socks off. For every Quick Lube industry you can make an Amsoil account you're gonna net 10g's a year. Get 7 or 8 accounts and you're done working other than to service those accounts. Do the math! It really is a cool opportunity.

Squid? Well something like that!

November 9th 2006 22:22
Many of us here in the Orble community have sites elsewhere or are considering expanding into other arenas. I ran across a very easy site (free) that is a community of folks much like Orble. It doesn't rival Orble in some ways, but in other ways out distances Orble. The site name is squidoo.com. I just joined this site and let me tell you why.

This site already boasts a readership of some 40,000 with more than 52,000 "lenses." Their setup is much like a regular website or blog, but they give you already done templates to choose from and edit what you like. Best of all, you can link back to Orble or any other site you'd like. If any of you are still playing the SEO game, you realize that backlinking to high content sites is still the rule. With the backlinks I have (granted I may have more than the average bear) I managed to go from 52,000 and something to 5,000 and something in one day.

What Exactly Do Lubricants Do?

November 6th 2006 16:10
Sometimes I think I tend to forget that some of us (ok most) don't have much of a clue about what lubricants are supposed to do for your ride. Many simply know you need to have oil in your car and to change it periodically. Well, here's a short article that explains what it is your oil is doing for you (or at least should be doing)

Bug off

November 3rd 2006 21:17
Or is that "Bugger Off?" I'm still learning I suppose. This isn't really a fuel saving tip but it is an aggravation saving one. I've worked a home business for going on three years now (yes I also work part time for the State). My home bizz tends to hybernate during the winter months hence the part time gig....Here's what I've found effective with telemarketers....Yeah...We all hate em. For the longest of time (since I don't hide, hell my name and number's all over the net), I get inundated by these schmucks....From Pens, to banks, to viagra, I can name em all. I've talked to them all. What has it done for me? Wasted seconds, minutes, HELL maybe years off my life. A while back I tried something different. I decided to lose my home land line and go cell only (bizz or not). Yep, you guessed it, they still called. Unavailable, unknown, private, and more and more just three digits like 508. For months my response was to ignore the call (well after hearing all the pitches any catcher would care to take in a career). I'd simply turn off the phone. Did it work? Nope. Then a few weeks ago, ok about a month and a half I decided on a new strategy. I decided to simply pick up the phone and say nothing. At first they would get indignant with their hellos then they would immediately call back. And I'd do the same thing. Now, I'm happy to report just a few short weeks later, I get a fraction of the calls I once got (from those sources). It doesn't cost these bozo's anything if you don't pick up the phone. However, if you do, and simply say nothing they get charged....and you don't have to hear the bullshit! It's a win/win situation. If they're truly stupid (or very greedy) they may call for multiple times before someone tells em to stop or their peabrain catches a clue...It's actually kinda fun!

It's not so much a fuel saving tip, but it's a tip nonetheless....LOL
